If you, like me, are absolutely stumped on what to get your dad for Father’s Day, check out the Father’s Day Collabrewtive brunch by Firestone Walker and Food GPS this Sunday. Yup, it’s a brunch that combines the best of both coffee and beer worlds with six brewers and six coffee roasters teaming up to create one-off coffee beers just for the event! You won’t be able to get these creations by Eagle Rock Brewery and Tierra Mia Coffee, Beachwood BBQ & Brewing and Portola Coffee Lab, Cismontane Brewing and Caffe Luxxe and Ladyface Ale Companie and LAMILL Coffee anywhere else.
Here’s just a taste of a couple of the creations.
Matt Brynildson of Firestone Walker collaborated with Intelligentsia to create ParabaJava –El Diablo, which is Intelligentsia El Diablo espresso-infused Parabola Imperial Stout for a “full-bodied stout with massive chocolate, roast and fresh coffee aroma and flavor.” Course ground coffee was added to the stout and aged for a year in bourbon casks. It’s 13% ABV, so look out!
Jesse Houck of Golden Road Brewing collaborated with Handsome Coffee Roasters to create a sessionable West Coast Mild called “Mildly Handsome.” “We chose premium English two-row malt and small amounts of specialty malts for a low ABV, full-flavored malt body that does not overpower the nuances of the roast or bean selected. Handsome chose a small lot of La Vega from Yilberto Guarnizo Osorio in Colombia, which imparts cherry, cocoa, and a hint of vanilla. These light flavors help round off the body, producing rich chocolate aromas and dry fruit character.”
Naturally it ain’t a brunch without eats. There will also be six food stations showcasing brunch dishes like Cooks County’s buttermilk biscuit breakfast, Littlefork’s maple yogurt with roasted peach and crispy freekeh and Sotto’s spiced ricotta fritters with stonefruit, bitter honey and salsiccia mattinale.
Tickets for the three-hour event are $50 and are all inclusive. A portion of the event proceeds will go to Share Our Strength, an organization that’s dedicated to battling childhood hunger. And nope, you don’t have to be a dad or bring a dad to go.
