This Saturday, Chef Sang Yoon of Lukshon and Father’s Office is hosting LuckyRice Night Market LA, the Los Angeles version of a New York City-based festival which celebrates Asian culinary culture. Culver City’s HD Buttercup in the Helms Bakery Building will be transformed into a traditional Asian night market complete with pagodas. Sure, our city has had many of those night markets this year, and maybe some not so great but after having pulled off sold-out night markets in New York for the past several years, just maybe LuckyRice Night Market LA will turn out swell. Plus this one features three of our city’s best mixologists.
Drago Centro’s Jaymee Mandeville (named by 2012 Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards as one of the top 10 trend-setting mixologists), Rose Ruiz of Big Bar in Los Feliz and Joseph Brooke of Mixology 101 as well as bartenders from New York and San Francisco will be serving up Bombay Sapphire-focused cocktails.
Jaymee said that for her Eastern Fog cocktail, a “riff on a Fog Cutter,” she was excited to use Bombay East. “I enjoy that Bombay took a delicate hand in infusing their staple gin with notes of black pepper and lemongrass…. The crispness of the East balanced with the soft vanilla of Bacardi 8 blend perfectly with yuzu citrus and pineapple. ”
For her cocktail the Fortune Cookie, she wanted to use Dumante Liqueur, a pistachio liqueur, which gives her creation “the slight sweetness and nuttiness of a fortune cookie and transformed that into a dangerously delicious aromatic style cocktail.”
