Colorado Wine Company's White Trash Wine Tasting 2009

cheese_whiz.jpg It’s baaack! Colorado Wine Company’s White Trash Wine Tasting where wine aficionados need to just get over themselves and surrender to the unusual pairings of tater tot casserole and Pinot Noir.

This annual down-home wine event, brilliantly conceived by CoWineCo owners Jennifer and John Nugent, offers all of the education of a wine tasting with none of the snobbery. How could you turn your nose up when biting into a pork rind? I went last year and had a hee-haw good time getting edumacated on how 7-Eleven fare could pair with some fine, affordable wines.

This year’s menu offers yet another series of truly inspired pairings:

  • Ecorces Frites de Porc (fried pork rinds) paired with Bastide Blanche Bandol 2005, France.
  • Fromage Liquide Sur le Pain Blanc (cheese whiz rolled in Wonder bread) paired with Vinedo de los Vientos Estival White 2007 from Atlantida in Uruguay.
  • Cocotte en Terre Frite de Cube en Pomme de Terre (tater tot casserole) paired with the Ken Brown Duncan’s Cuvee Pinot Noir 2006 from the Santa Rita Hills in California.
  • Sucrerie de Citron Enveloppée Par Bacon (bacon-wrapped lemonheads) paired with the HM Borges 10 Year Old Reserve Malmsey Reserva Madeira from Portugal.

“Bacon-wrapped lemonheads”?! Scary! And yet oh-so intriguing. And Wonder bread? Haven’t had that in years but am ready to wash it down with a Uruguayan white.

Well, it’s the third year for this event and as in previous years it’s sure to sell out FAST so you need to RSVP ASAP as they only have about 100 spots.
