Saturdays Off the 405: Cut Chemist
One of these days I’m going to attend this really cool summer event. This time it’s hard to resist with DJ Cut Chemist manning the decks. And vocalist Hymnal and Cinefamily’s VJ (video jockey) Pimpadelic Wonderland will fill out the performance. Echo Park’s dance band, We Are the World, will also be on hand to show off their exuberant dance stylings.

L.A. Beer Float Showdown
The event that almost made me give up my dairy fast but I shall hold steadfast. Doesn’t mean you have to though. Blogger Food GPS (Josh Lurie) put together this brilliant event pitting Golden State and Scoops against BottleRock and Milk for best beer float. For only $23, attendees get to experience four 8-oz floats and will have to vote for which is the best. Word to the wise, maybe eat a light breakfast and definitely bring a designated driver.

Morton’s Cookbook Author Signing
I love booksigning parties where there are cocktails, appetizers and a cookbook. At Morton’s The Steakhouse’s booksigning party for its second cookbook, Morton’s the Cookbook: 100 Steakhouse Recipes for Every Kitchen, they promise all of the above for $59 but you get to keep that cookbook and get it signed by Klaus Fritsch, the co-founder of Morton’s and co-author of the book. Delicacies of the evening are right out of the cookbook. If you can’t make the Beverly Hills signing on Monday there will also be one at Morton’s in Burbank on Tuesday 6-7:30pm.
- 6-7:30pm. $59. 435 S. La Cienega Boulevard, Los Angeles (map). Reservations: (310) 246-1501.

Akasha’s Unibrou Beer Dinner
Akasha’s last beer dinner with New Belgium Brewery sold out so fast that even *I* didn’t get to buy a ticket. So if you’re smart you’ll make your reservations for their Unibroue one. Foods made with beer will be paired with beer. Grilled pizza bread with microbrew-enhanced aged goat cheese, beer-braised pepper crusted short ribs with Chambly Noire Black Ale to name a few. But that dark chocolate chip ice cream sundae paired with Trois Pistoles Strong Dark Ale makes me want to cry. Ah, ice cream, how I miss you.
- 7:30pm. $55. Akasha, 9543 Culver Boulevard, Culver City (map). Reservations: (310) 845-1700.
