Hi Caroline on Crack,
You are my new hero. I dated this jerk douchebag who took me to lots of nice places and I always oohed and ahhed at how many hot new spots he knew of. But he was a total jerk and I’m not seeing him anymore. At first, it was so hard to figure out where to go and what to do — and it made me think I missed him — but I really just needed to go to cool places with people I actually enjoy spending time with. I had no idea how to go about doing that but with your Web site I have a newfound motivation! I am excited to explore the stuff you suggest and use the resources on your page. So THANK YOU!
I have a question — where can I go near West Hollywood, Melrose/Fairfax, Hollywood for happy hour that has an outside patio that is sunny and not smokey? Right now my go-to place is Belmont but the outside is really smokey and not exactly sunny.
Thanks!
Out & About
Dear Out & About,
Sorry about your sucky ex. I’ve had plenty experiences with that, too, and good thing you got rid of him. But, yeah, you don’t need him to have a good time. Pshaw! There’s plenty to do in L.A. and plenty of resources as well. Just check my sidebar under L.A. City Guides for starters. Yelp makes it easy to search for great happy hours because you can filter out the reviews to just show those with high ratings. And I also like The Guide and Metromix for finding new hot spots and fun events. As for a decent happy hour in your area with cool people you want to spend time with and a sunny, non-smoking patio, that’s kinda tough since outdoor patios usually have smokers. Sucks, I know.
In any case, chichi XIV’s terrace on Sunset just last week kicked off a surprisingly economical happy hour called “6ix on Sunset,” Tuesdays through Saturdays from 6 to 8pm, where you can get $6 cocktails, $6 apps off the terrace menu and even $6 valet (6-7pm) — cheap by Strip standards. BTW, on an unrelated note, apparently the black truffle popcorn is to die for. And have you checked out Hungry Cat’s happy hour in Hollywood? They have an outdoor patio that’s not exactly in the sun but they serve up half-off fresh fruit cocktails and draft beer and wine specials Monday through Friday 4-6pm. And Katana on Sunset might be up your alley as it has a special happy hour on its scene-y patio with $5 selected drinks, apps, skewers and sushi rolls every day 5:30-7pm on weekdays and 6-7pm on weekends. There’s also Red Rock on Sunset which has a great patio for people- and traffic-watching the Strip and their happy hour is 5-7pm every day with half off drinks.
Hope that helps!
Caroline
