I’ll be too busy this weekend with my big move (and seeing Beck at the Bowl) but here are some things YOU can do.
Friday, September 19
Old Navy’s Best Friend Weekend Sale
Who shops alone? Exactly. So while you’re out on a spree with your buddy, stop by an Old Navy and you both can get 20% off your purchases if you use the password “BFF.” Yeah, it sucks you have to say “BFF” aloud but, hey, discounts are always good.
- Friday, September 19 through Sunday, September 21. Various Old Navy locations.
Godfather Double Feature at the ArcLight
I JUST watched Godfather I and II last year for the first time and wondered what took me so long. Awesome films. And now fans can see it on the big screen at the ArcLight. Sure that’s about six hours out of your day but this print has been meticulously restored, overseen by Coppola himself!
- Friday, September 19 through Thursday, September 25. ArcLight Hollywood, 6360 Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood (map). (323) 464-4226?.
Blumesday at the M Bar
Judy Blume was a part of any young girl’s development. Now you can enjoy her works as an adult as a group of writers and performers will read passages from their favorite Judy Blume works. SNL’s Melanie Hutsell will read Forever and Six Feet Under‘s Jill Soloway will pair with Carrie Aizley (Campus Ladies) to read Deenie. I wanna know who’s covering Are You There, God? It’s Me, Margaret?
- 8pm. $8 cover, reservations encouraged. $10 food minimum. M Bar, 1253 Vine Street, Los Angeles (map). (323) 856-0036.
Saturday, September 20
Pan de Leche Strawberry French Toast at Ortega 120
This Redondo Beach cantina is kicking off weekend brunches this Saturday. You have five breakfast entrees to choose from but the French toast sounds like a knockout what with thick cut sweet pan de leche stuffed with sweet cream & strawberries, agave maple syrup, powdered sugar. Need more? $3 mimosas, nuff said.
- Saturdays and Sundays. Ortega 120, 1814 S Pacific Coast Highway, Redondo Beach (map). (310) 792-4120.
Last Cinespia Cemetery Screening of the Season: Alien
Aww! Is it over already?! Yes, I’m afraid it is. The LAST screening of Cinespia is this Saturday and it’s the mother of all horror movies, Alien! In space, no one can hear you scream…but I’m sure other movie-goers in the cemetery will want you to keep it down. Anyway, I’m really sad I’m going to miss this one.
- Gates open at 6:30; show 8pm. $10. Hollywood Forever Cemetery, 6000 Santa Monica Boulevard, Los Angeles (map).
Sunday, September 21
Savor the Season 2008
If $300 is too much for you to pay for the American Wine & Food Festival that’s happening next weekend, you may want to check out Savor the Season 2008 which has been called “one of the top ten food and wine events in Southern California” AND it’s $100! Enjoy the goods from some of the top L.A. chefs as well as music, wine and spirits. This event benefits Break the Cycle, the leading organization that raises awareness and provides support for teen victims of domestic violence.
- 6-9pm. $100 gen admission/$250 VIP. Vibiana, 210 S. Main Street, Downtown (map).
Goldfrapp at the Orpheum
Dude! Goldfrapp is performing at the beautiful downtown theatre, the Orpheum! Imagine Alison’s ethereal voice in that setting. Amazingly there are still tickets to this awesome show. Balcony, but so what?
- 8pm. $30. Orpheum Theatre, 842 S Broadway, Downtown (map).
