A swap meet, bikinied girls in gorilla masks and horchata martinis, sounds like it’s going to be an interesting weekend.

2008 Summer Swap-O-Rama-Rama
I’ve never been to a swap meet before but this one in Venice sounds so fun, and it happens to coincide with the Venice Eco-Fest as you do a little recycling of your own. Just bring a bag of your used/unwanted clothes, pay the $5 admission and then go through the piles of free clothes that everyone else brought. You can take home as much as you can carry out. Sounds like a great excuse to do some spring/summer closet cleaning…and to refill your closet again. What’s left over after the swap will go to Out of the Closet. There will also be DIY workshops to teach you how to transform your new used clothing.
- 11am-5pm. $5 if you bring a bag of clothes, $10 without. Venice Center for Peace with Justice and the Arts, 2210 Lincoln Boulevard, Venice (map).
2nd Annual No Cookie Left Behind Bake Sale
If you have a sweet tooth that can’t be denied, check out this special bake sale (part of Share Our Strength’s Great American Bake Sale) that will feature scrumptious goodies like banana caramel cake, homemade chocolate peanut butter cups and a chocolate Guinness cake, to name just a few. Drool! Everything is created by local caterers, cookbook authors, local bakeries and food bloggers. The kicker is it’ll take place in L.A.’s favorite ice cream shop, Scoops! So if you are still jonesing for sugar, try out one of owner Tai Kim’s amazing and unusual ice cream concoctions. Feel good about every purchase you make as every dollar goes to fighting childhood hunger.
- 12-4pm. Scoops, 712 N. Heliotrope Drive, Los Angeles (map). (323) 906-2649.
Bronx Zoo at La Cita
I’d say an awesome way to pass a Saturday afternoon is sipping cocktails and sketching bikini-clad girls in gorilla masks. That’s what’s going down at the Bronx Zoo summer party series at La Cita. You heard me, girls in gorilla masks who come out every hour on the hour. I know that’s why I want to go. The only thing that sucks is no cameras or photography are allowed. Boo. But if you’re game for taking this eccentric art class bring your own paper, clipboard, charcoal, pencils, etc. The series will go on each Saturday through September.
- 2-8pm. $5. La Cita, 336 S. Hill Street, Downtown (map). (213) 687-7111.

Ortega 120 Sunday Afternoon Grand Opening Fiesta
What’s a horchata martini and where and how can you get one, ya ask? Ortega 120, a new Mexican restaurant in Redondo Beach, is celebrating its grand opening this Sunday with cocktails, food and live music. Try out that horchata martini or perhaps the Caipirinha de Fruta or how’s about the Ortega 120 “liquid gold” margarita? Call (323) 792-4120 to be added to the invite list as there is limited space.
- 3-6pm. Ortega 120, 1814 S. Pacific Coast Highway, Redondo Beach (map).
Bar 107 Yard Sale
Oooh, a yard sale with cocktails. Yes, you can rummage through clothes, knickknacks and even old VHS tapes with one hand and enjoy your $2 Bloody Mary or mimosa with the other! All proceeds go to a school for kids living on Skid Row. Here’s the flier thanks to Thrillist.
- 10am-2pm. Bar 107, 107 4th Street, Downtown (map). (213) 625-7382.
